Having an older Shopsmith 10ER with a tired motor, I would like to convert to an electronically variable speed motor as I use it as my lathe. I have read that it is possible (more expensive than constant speed, of course) but am having trouble finding which type of motor and which type of control system to purchase. Anyone have experience or knowledge regarding this? I will probably go with a 1HP or .75HP motor.
