I started in crafts doing high fired pottery, primarily wheel thrown objects. I found that woodworking could be used effectively to enhance my work, then began to find enjoyment in woodworking, especially when I lost access to a salt kiln when the local community college shop closed down.
Now with a basement workshop I enjoy the Arts and Craft style furniture and am exploring challenges in joinery and finishing.
Anyone close enough to visit Hearne Hardwoods in SE PA should definitely do so - fantastic! Ask them for the full tour, if they are not real busy you will have an amazing experience.
