This might not be the world’s cheapest template, but it’s got to be pretty nearly the cheapest.
For my Stickley Inspired Entertainment Center I needed to drill about a hundred shelf support holes to hold up the three shelves. I bought a yardstick, cut it to length and had my son drill holes every one inch.

We then used it on the drill press as a template to drill the shelf support holes. It worked out great and we have a nice template for next time we need a bunch of evenly spaced holes.

And to think I was half considering actually buying one of those templates just to save time, great idea, I will definitely be using this one.

This is one of those ‘slap yourself in the head “Why didn’t I think of that?” ideas!!!
Thank you very much for posting this as I am about to drill a whack of holes in the verticals for my son’s closet. You have just saved me hours of figuring out something that probably wouldn’t work better than this.
