hi all ; new tool! The Idea for this I have thanks to St Thomas’ Guild (http://thomasguild.blogspot.nl/) I got this idea from their blog a long time ago and I have had this in the back burner of my mind for awhile, and it stayed there until I needed it. So, i’m going to an event called Noisemakers in two weeks and need more tuning pegs.
I used to buy good cheep ebony tuners for
$0.25 each, now they are $3.60 each.
whittling tuning pegs is not exactly a “safe” thing to do. the peg is tiney and no matter which direction you cut, it is twords your hand…
BUT not any more! that is an unfinished tuning peg, wedged in the branch notch! sort of like a bowl or sabot maker’s horse, but I hold it in my hand, and now I don’t cut at my hand! well I think its cool
it is but a stick with a notch cut out of it! well that and a wedge. Ok, take your tiny thing you want to carve, find a stick
2 x as big across as what you are carving. make 2 cuts down with a saw about the length of your thing plus 1/4". NOTE make one cut as square across as possible and the other 7 to 10 degrees out of square to the length of the stick. and make a little wedge to match the out of square end.
