Little shadow box

I finally made a little shadow box for my badges. Thought they should be someplace besides my drawer. I am still missing the glass that goes in it – have to make a trip to the glass shop and get a piece cut. I used select pine and cedar – I wanted to make this as I have to make two more for two other officers retiring from the PD. I guess it will work. This was a combination of using my band saw, table saw, router and sander. Most shadow boxes are large and I got to thinking – about the size – this one measures 14” long and 9.5” high – 4” deep. The reason for the size – again I got to thinking (have a headache now) that after you pass from this life – maybe someone in the family would keep this if it was not too large to hang on the wall (that is the reason for the flat back) or have on a desk top (has 5 – 3/8” plugs for legs). It really does not measure up to the projects here -
but was fun to make.

Hall Table

Well as usual – I made a big mistake. This table was to be 60” long for my daughter in law’s hall. Now how the heck I measured 72” I will never know, but that is the length I built it. Through the whole project – I kept tell the wife something was wrong. Anyhow – its 12” too long and project past the wall by 12”. So now it sits in our front room. sigh.

The second project was a small stereo cabinet to match – the “mistake” table that I made. The wife wanted some type of small table for her stereo.

I wish I could afford better lumber, but, I work with what I can. Someday – I will build something out of a quality wood product. Someday.

New Baby (doll)

I showed a picture of my grand daughter – and the treasure chest that we built – well for her birthday she got a new baby (doll) called baby alive – man – its eats and poops….what else will they think of for these kids. I just call that plain messy…LOL. Anyhow – needed for the baby was a few items that she explained were very necessary for a baby – one of them being a high chair. So its grandpa’s job to build the high chair… (At least she did not ask for a potty). That would have been plain embarrassing. I saw a picture of a high chair but no measurement – so here is my attempt at a doll high chair….simple things for simple minds….
mine – not my grand daughter – at 4 she is like trying to keep up with the butt end of Hailey’s comet.. the chair is 27” tall and has a seat of 9” x 9.25” and width is about 11 inches.

My 4 year old grand daughter came for a visit and we went out to the shop. She informed me that she needed a treasure chest to hold her new giraffe that grandma bought her. So we built this one out of lumber I had on hand. It even has a secrete bottom. She is pretty proud of it and she did help with the project. Her name is Ali, she is 4 going on 24… sigh

Well this is my second project – the bench being my first. Again a project for the wife – but then again – if she wants it – I have no problem in purchasing the material. Two for her – now she can not refuse lumber for a gun cabinet. (I hope!) Oh yes – the buffet stills needs lots of sanding and a finish. I hate to finish this wood as I love the natural look but will have to go with a oak finish as the dinning room table is made of oak.

So I started with woodburning – have been asked to build some dog beds with names and pictures of the dog – for WindSwept Kennels – we will see how that goes.
Here is a few of my projects – just new at this – just started in December.
