« Part 3: Updated drawing, lower shelf and dowel holes Part 4 of Mixer stand build series Part 5: Follow up: Put to use »

One final design change. After doing a dry fit assembly I didn’t like the design of the towel bar so I made a new one and updated the drawing.

With this design I cut it out of one board. I think it fits a little better and gives a little more room for kitchen towel.

Close up of the walnut dowels pinning the mortises. They have a little competition for attention from knots on the legs.

Stain and first topcoat on. The stain really highlights the grain! and any place I didn’t quite get the glue all off, or bumped the soft wood and made a mark..

I used my biscuit joiner to cut the slots for hardware to attach the top.

Very last step will be to put glue on these dowels and shove in the towel bar!

Next post will be in finished projects.. it will be several days of applying finish, wait, sand, repeat.. I want to build up a good hard thick coat on this soft wood.

All comments and critiques welcome! Here to learn.

Thanks!

I can learn from you, Lalen. That’s beautiful and I’m sure your mom will be thrilled with it.

Love the new handle design. The rectilinear lines flow well with the rest of the design. My wife always is asking me why I’m on the forums, so I showed her your dowels. Nice!

Thanks again CaptainSkully. The contrasting dowels were a nice addition for sure! And now you’re adding to my vocabulary…. not sure I’ve ever used ’’rectilinear” in a sentence.

Merry Christmas!
