Need to sharpen turning tool - 9 replies
Hi, Santa brought me a lathe this year and I’m struggling to get the tools sharp. The straight tools are no problem, I was able to sharpen them on some sand paper stuck to granite. The tools aren’t HSS, but cheaper ones and burn quickly even with a white norton disk on my grinder. I am thinking about a Worksharp or slow spee...

Double Stopped Dados? - 10 replies
Hi, I’m making a toolbox that requires a series of dados that are stopped on both ends. Anyone have experience doing this? The only two ways to do this I can think of doing this are dropping it onto the router bit or raising the saw blade into it. Any other ideas? Thank You,

Hey All, I was just at Home Depot (Washington, PA) today and I saw the Ridgid Granite Top Table Saw on sale for 399. I also saw the jointer for 299. Are they discontinuing these or is this just a sale? I’ve heard back and forth on the table saw, but I was wondering about the jointer.

I’m a new bandsaw owner and I just uncoiled my first blade. The package said “Warning this blade is under tension” and to untie it and throw it on the floor. It also said to wear gloves which I wasn’t. I uncoiled it and threw it, but my thumb got caught. I got a pretty decent cut and just wanted to remind myself...

Jointer knife setup - 3 replies
Hi All, I am working on setting the knives on my Delta benctop jointer and it sucks. I considering getting something bigger in the future. What are you thoughts on setting the knives on other jointers? Setting them on the Delta doesn’t seem that bad, so I’m wondering if there is something quicker and easier. Is this just...

Hi, I own a Bosch router model 1617EVSPK and I’m think about picking up a Porter Cable dovetail Jig. I have reviewed the jig’s manual and it says that I need a router that accepts the template guides supplied with the jig. Does anyone using a setup like this? Does anyone know if I need to get anything for the router to use this ...

Dust Collection, What should I expect? - 9 replies
Hi, I am using a Rockler portable dust collecter on a Ridgid granite topped table saw. Its connected with a 21 section of flexible hose. What kind of results can I expect? So I still get tons of dust in the cabinet and very little dust is pulled out. Is this normal? I know I could probably seal up some of the holes in the saw, would t...

Unwanted bows in a jointer - 6 replies
HI All and Happy New Year! I am having a problem with my jointer. Its a small six inch delta bench top model, JT160 I think. Anyway, it seems to cut very smooth, but the problem is that I cannot get a flat edge. When I put two jointed edges together there is up to a 1/16 inch gap in the middle. The ends seem to meet up though. It se...

Where do I find wood in south western PA? - 6 replies
Are there any ‘jocks in south western PA? I’m wondering where I can find some wood other than Lowes and the Depot. I’m looking for some 5/4 red oak and I would prefer not to order it online. I checked Carter Lumber and 84 Lumber too. Heck, with “Lumber” in the name you would think that they would have more than ...
