Old Growth Redwood - 5 replies
I have started to make things out of this remarkable slab of old growth redwood. The slab came from a tree that was cut down a century ago. 50 years after the tree was felled the stump was harvested. 60 years after that the slab made it’s way to me. That means this wood has had decades to air dry and let me tell you it is dry!!! ...

What should I build with this??? - 23 replies
So I just got this slab of wood last night. It is about 3 1/2 feet tall, 4 feet wide at the narrow portion, and 2 3/4 inches thick. I was told the slab had been sitting in an attic for over 40 years. It is curly redwood and is going to make something unbelievable. Question is what do I make with it??? Here is a close up of the grain patte...

I am building 5 different jewelry boxes. I am at the final stages of assembly, sanding, and finishing. But I have to make a big decision first. Which way do I attach the lid??? Routed side up… or routed side down???
