In the summer of 2005 American Chopper was holding a FAN-tasy bike competition. Part of the entry requirements was to make a three minute video and send it to them… so I did… this is that video…

The URL for the video is: The Star Trek Chopper

Now, you may be wondering why would I post that video here??? There are two reasons, first is because this is the only video I have showing off the whole wall entertainment center I built at my old house. If you look in the background you will see how the Birch, Purple Heart, and low voltage lighting all worked together to create an amazing wall.

I came up with the idea and design for the wall when travelling to Massachusetts a few years before. The then Wife and I were staying at this rather nice hotel and they had a wall with cubbies and low voltage lighting in it. i really liked the look and decided to add my own touches to it. I thought it turned out rather nice myself… I would do a few things differently now of course… such as add spotlight lighting in certain areas and hidden power strips throughout the whole thing so I cold plug knick-knacks in. But still it ended up looking rather nice if I do say so myself.

Also in the video there is a section where my Friend (whom should probably remain nameless due to the nature of the video) and I were singing the famous Christmas carol “Walking Around in Women’s Underwear”... ah… er… Walking in a Winter Wonderland… yeah that’s it…

Anyway if you look in the background of that scene you will see what the wall looked like prior to building the entertainment center. Oh and the nameless guy drinking beer with me in the song… He’s the guy who showed me how to build the wall and gave me my first woodworking lessons.

As for the second reason I posted this video… I am getting ready to launch a Kickstarter campaign to assist me in treating that slab of curly Redwood I have sitting in my garage with the proper care and attention it deserves. You remember The Slab right??? Looks like this:

Part of the Kickstarter campaign is going to be a video explaining what I want to do with the wood. The Star Trek Chopper video is a pretty good indication of the type of commercial you will see on Kickstarter from me for The Phoenix Project. And if I get successfully funded I will continue to make similar types of videos showing my progress as I make heirloom quality objects from “The Slab”.

Please wish me luck as try to get The Phoenix Project funded…

I hope you enjoy watching the video as much as I enjoyed making it!!! :)
