You ask why I remind folks about our rules..............

I have been known in the past, and even recently, to “kindly remind” people who post off-topic or rule-breaking projects to lumberjocks.

While I get a bit of anger from it, mostly it’s from people asking “What’s the Harm”?

Here is what I fear – take a look at our two “sister” sites and see what they have become:

http://homerefurbers.com/projects

http://gardentenders.com/projects

UTTERLY horrible. Enough to make the entire site a waste of time and effort.

We at LJ’s DO police ourselves and have some pretty good moderators that spend a ton of time weeding out the spammers.

Oh yeah – I also don’t want this site to look like Facebook in any way, shape or form. ;-)

Have a great weekend and Cheers!

-bob

If Lumberjocks ever starts to look like those other sites I will be long gone from here.

Since those sites are supposedly run by the same people who run Lumberjocks..why in the heck to they let those sites evolve into a pile of crap?

Oh my … what a mess.

In the spirit of helpful advice, may I suggest that this would have been better located in the Site Feedback Forum?

Forum topics get bumped to the top of the list each time someone posts while blogs just move deeper down the list. More visibility that way.

Also, this is an excellent topic for Site Feedback.

Yeah, but those sites didn’t get that way because of posts that are just breaking the rules a little bit or by people that would respond to polite requests to follow the rules. They got that way by spammers plain and simple, and they don’t care a bit about polite requests. All your reminders do is remind a few people what the rules are and irritate a few others. If you actually want to save the site from that, flag every post that looks like spam.

Wonderful policies here at LJ’s, someone should informed the sister sites, how would they get all that out of there in a reasonable time frame

the sad thing is the lack of activity. Spammers will come and go but people could be posting more pics. 12 days since someone posted a pic on refurb, 7 on the gardening one.

Looks like it has been cleaned up.

Although it is still a ghost town.
