Router out what’s going to be the hidden compartment…

Once it’s glued together, router out the sliding dovetail – not easy with no router table, but this is what i came up with…

Cut the other half of the dovetail in what’s going to be the base…

As always, allow members of the zoo to examine the work…

Is there a locking mechanism of any kind? Seems this compartment would be easily discovered by handling the bookends.
At any rate, it would be in my house where my friends routinely browse my library… But then I have no bookends as they would occupy space that could hold more books!

It doesn’t lock, but it’s tight enough that, unless you know it’s there (or routinely try to pull things apart!), you wouldn’t really discover it.
