About a year and a half ago we acquired a couple of cats from some people returning to England from Portugal. Great chaps they are – Ginger and Blackie – at the time they were about 8.
Having read that cats like to play, I went out and made a fluffy swingy toy for them…

It’s a piece of chestnut fence post stuck into a hoe-like thing, with an ash cross piece, and a piece of beech to keep the “handle” in place. I know – don’t mix chestnut and ash, but I like to push the envelope somewhat. From the top, on a fence staple, I hung a bit of string, and at the end of the string a fluffy pink toy and a small bell.
Well, needless to say the two cats were not amused. So not amused, in fact, that they never once even attempted to play with it.
For the last 2 years it’s sat in our lounge not being played with – a constant source of disappointment to me – perhaps that saying about the chestnut and ash has some value?

Then we found Claw-Dee-Puss abandoned, and rescued him…

...and, much to my amazement, he loves to play with it – practising his Bruce Lee skills for hours on end (1m 51s)...

I love the way he sidles up to it as if he will take that enemy off guard. How did he celebrate at the end when he had driven off the interloper? Nice portrait of CDP too! I assume this is the same kitty who took over one of your boxes in an early project?

Cute lil guy… Looks like close to a Seal Point Himalayan/Siamese kitten… Beautiful!

I’d say it’s good that you kept it…

What a RIOT!!

Great going!

... yeah… he will grow out of it…
... BUT, you’re going to have BALL until he does!

He is indeedy.
He’s up from 375g to 700g this morning – he’s a growin’ fast and probably close to what he ought to be for his age now.

Nice tag line.

I find the easiest way to get a cat to play is to try and do anything in the shop! All of our cats go crazy as soon as they get sight of a pencil or tape measure.

I’ve had dogs, now cats have me. LOL. Last woodworking projects were outside cat houses and a cat feeding station.( The catty shack) Minnesota winters!

Hope to do some fine woodworking projects this winter. Thanks for posting this. LOL!
