Hi, Just wanted to introduce myself to the LJ community. I’ve been following the website for 3 or 4 months now and have been impressed by the quality of the projects and the people involved. Like I stated in my profile I make my living as a firefighter and try to spend as much time as I can in the shop when I’m away from the fire station. I consider myself a “beginner” woodworker. I have no formal training to this end but grew up watching my dad almost literally make something from nothing in his shop. I hope to post a project I recently completed, for the family of a brother firefighter that was killed in the line of duty last month,in a day or so.

Welcome to LumberJocks. This is a pretty good home at home?? Ifyou have a question, ask away. The advise will probably be worth about what you paid for it , but it will be plentiful.

Welcome! It’s always extra special to hear from someone who has been an observer and then decided to join :)

Sorry about your fellow firefighter :(

Welcome to LJ. You will find a great group of people here always willing to help. Like yourself, and most others here, I have no formal training either. We all started climbing the ladder from the bottom.

Hello Kip,

Welcome to the LJ family from one former firefighter to another! :-) Please accept my condolences for our brother firefighter who died in the line of duty. I don’t know his name, but we were brothers just the same. He may be gone, but his courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten…

I spent several years in the 80’s “In the belly of the beast” fighting fire with a local Fire Department. I also was cross trained in EMS. When I wasn’t fighting fire, I was running calls on the ambulance. Back then, the economy was in the pits and there were lots of arson related house and car fires.

It was not uncommon to respond to fully involved arson fires where the home had kitchen cabinets and closets stuffed with one gallon cans of gasoline and other flammables. Perilous times for sure… Brothers forever, shoulder to shoulder, we stand together… Take care.
