I think I will be heading to Springfield, MO on Saturday for the Grizzly Tent Sale. As long as I can convince the wife not to kick me out afterwards that is. I’m still looking for a 20” planer, and I think I’ll go with the Grizzly.

Anyone else going?

Anyone else ever been that would have some advice for us newbies? What time to get there is my biggest question? I am going for one very specific item and do not want to miss out on it. Sale is from 8am to 3pm.

I would be there at 8am if not earlier…..that way there is no way that they can say “Oh sorry, we only had 1 and it already sold”.

I’ve been and Lazy is right. You need to be the first one there because all the good deals get snatched up right away. You have to look close though because a few machines are broken and you have to value the parts in order to see if it is a deal. They also have a lot of smaller things on sale like the woodworking shows.

Kevin, my school shop is selling their 20” grizzly planer. We ended up with a 15” spiral and a wide belt sander. The planer is about 10 years old and works, just needs a set of blades. However if you can live with a couple of chips and then sand them out after you plane a panel, you can use the blades. I am even including the rolling base that it sits on. Asking $500. I am in St Louis, but in July we have a wedding in KC, could meet you there. Also possibly end of June I will be going to Tulsa for a instructor seminar. Could meet up on that trip also. Let me know. here is the link on craigs list here in STL:

If you go get there about 6:00am there are people that stay there all night to be at the front of the line. When we went last year at 7:00am when we got there the line was the length of the building on the sale entrance side. And by the time the opened the sale gates the line was clear around the building. We picked up some small item bargains but I purchased a tent sale hanging dust collector and had to spend an extra $60 too get it to run right. It was still a bargain at a total cost of $100. We purchased several large tools inside the store, a pickup and trailer full, and have had great luck with them. If I were to go again I’d have to take a hard look and the fuel costs.

Thanks for the advice guys. I am not interested in any of the small items out in the tent. I am only going for a planer. (Obviously that is my story, but I may be pursuaded into buying something else that I just can’t live without.)

Does the new stuff get marked down as well?

It sounds like the tent sale is full of dent & ding type stuff and smaller items. Is that true?

Tooldad, I’ll talk to about that.
