Taper Jig

While building the 3-in-1 crib/bed for my newest Grandson, instead of using the bandsaw to cut the tapers, I opted to build a taper jig. After doing many searches here on LJ’s, and out there in cyberspace, I came to the conclusion to build this one (with a few of my own additions), from August 2012 Woodsmith magazine. http://www.woodsmithshop.com/download/609/taper-jig.pdf
I didn’t use t-tracks, cuz I made my own, or jig knobs, cuz I made my own, except 1, or hold-downs, yep, cuz I made my own. The jig is made from 1/2” Baltic Birch plywood, 1/4” hardboard, Walnut, and Oak, and the hold-downs are Maple. Most of this was woods/scraps layin round the shop. Thnx fer the looks, and/or good/bad/ugly comments. This is a very nice universal type jig that I know I will use again and again. The last pic are the 3-pairs of legs for the crib/todler/full size bed that I hope to have done before my Grndson turns 18.. :)
Here’s a short video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1SRUP-8SuE&feature=youtu.be
Be aware I’m a video rookie

Anyhoo, ....These are some pens I’ve been makin in-between the crib building project. I made them for a friend that has a shop in downtown Louisville, in hopes of selling a few to some Kentucky Derby spectators while in town. I know there are a lot of acrylics, but, that’s what the “doctor” ordered…. lol There is a few nice wood blanks here as well. Bicote, Redheart, Cocobolo. Thnx any comments, good/bad/ugly.. Appreciate for the looks. I hope to get back on the crib soon, before my Grndson graduates high school….

Except for the magnets, this whole lil project was made from the scrap bins. I made this for my youngest Grandson (so far the youngest).. We’ll be doing our Christmas with him and the rest of my kids in a few weeks when my youngest Daughter has her 1st baby. I got the idea from a magazine, and I know some folks on here have made them. The outside is just some Maple scrap, and the number blocks are also scraps/cut-offs from pen & pencil blanks. These woods of Yellowheart, Redheart, and Purpleheart were cut in half, then I burned the numbers on em. The 3/4” square acrylic dice were also in the cut-off tub. I used an 1/8” brazing rod for the numbers bar, so they could flip them up and down. The top is a scrap piece of acrylic that is glued to the top portion and actually slides to close. It will have a magnet or 2 to hold the lid on while it is not used. OH, I almost forgot, the felts, (green & blue/purple), were also scraps. Thnx for the looks and/or any comments, yep, I’m gonna say it, good, bad, and/or ugly.

The frame as you see is metal, and the seats are some sort of hard fiberglass like stuff. I re-painted them to jaz them up a little for my 2 Granddaughters, they are 3 and 2, for Christmas.
Thnx for looking. All comments, good, bad, and/or ugly are appreciated.
It’s been a bit since I’ve been able to do anything shop related. I am way behind on things. BUT, oh well, that’s the way it goes sometimes.
P.S. It took me 3 days to clean up the chrome legs, cuz they were pretty rusted up. :)
OH, and P.S.S. : I did run these tops thru my drum sander that I aquired a few months ago, and it is just awesome! Yea fer me for having one.

Lumber Rack

7 – 8’ 2×4’s and, voila…....I’ve been wanting to make this smaller version lumber rack for inside my shop so it could be a little better acclimated before I saw butcherin it all up. After squaring them all up a bit, and doin a little machining, it’s gonna be a very nice little (not really too little) rack for the next upcoming projects or 2.
It took me a bit longer to do build this, than a normal person…. and that’s cuz, I had an opportunity to purchase a Performax 16×32” Drum Sander…........ WoooooooHooooooooooooo !!! I’m so excited. I’ve got a few pics of my “booty” in this blog http://lumberjocks.com/Kentuk55/blog/32045 Lookin forward to putting these fine tools into the fun. As always, thnx fer lookin n any comments, good, bad, and/or ugly, are appreciated.

I posted a couple o these, but, this is everything that I did for my sister. Acrylic do-dads, and pens, and 2 sets of hors d’œuvre utensils. Wenge and Bloodwood with a Danish Oil finish for the utensils. I think I’m done with acrylics. They’re ok, but, I like wood more better. Thnx for lookin. Appreciate any input, good, bad, or ugly
