A Nice Sized Deck

I wish this was something in the custom cabinetry but I have poured my heart and soul into this project and wanted to share it with you all. I don’t normally except deck jobs but this was a real challenge that I couldn’t let slip by! It is a very large 2 story deck that wraps around an above ground swimming pool. This is a repeat customer of mine who really wanted me to build her a deck and had a really good idea of exactly what she wanted. She picked all man made materials for the surfaces and railing. I wrapped some of the surfaces with aluminum trim coil and did the low voltage lights in the railing posts. I had a really good time putting this project in motion and because of this project the neighbor’s daughter stopped by and insisted that I build her a deck with the same materials at her house. I stopped by her house and see lots of opportunity for some other more interesting interior projects that I would like to handle for her so I am now scheduled to build her a 16’ x 80’ deck on the back of her house!! There goes my summer!!! Yeah!!! ;o)

It works really well for me. Just some 2×4’s and plywood. I thought I would show off my new sander while I had the chance! It’s a woodmaster 25” single drum sander.

I custom designed and built this bar a couple of years ago. It has brass foot railing around the bottom to prop you feet up on. It has rope lighting under the front overhang. I also put rope lighting in behind the bar area to illuminate the appropriate areas. The countertop was made in two pieces and pieced together like a puzzle on site. The top is a mix of red oak, cherry, walnut and ash. I am extremely proud of this piece and get lots of good referrals from this job too!

I built it with a toe kick drawer to regain space that would have been lost where the wheels were. The piece is made of red oak and the finish is minwax puritan pine stain with medium rubbed effect lacquer sprayed through an HVLP gun.

Here are a set of cabinets that I built between a chimney and exterior wall and there was a hot water baseboard heater that the customer wanted me to leave and work around. She also wanted access to be able to clean and if necessary, bleed the unit. I made the little panels on the bottom removable and I made the keeper knobs by hand for an old world feel. The unit is obviously made of Red Oak and the contrasting wood is Walnut. She had a tree taken down about 20 years ago at their last house and she had been saving the wood (which she had sawed up for her to use later) for a special project and I guess she finally found one! I laminated the front of the shelves with the Walnut too.

Basement Sewing Area with a Cold Bar

I did this for the same client as the entertainment center / bookshelves and did it at the same time. It was a really big project for me and they are very happy with the end product. It is made of Birch plywood and poplar solid wood. The countertop is just a standard square edge laminate piece. The fridge is a bit pricey but worth it as it is designed to fit under the countertop and accept a door panel to blend in nicely with the cabinetry. It’s manufacturer is U-Line in case you are interested.
