Finishing Gaboon Ebony on Pen?? - 4 replies I’ve tried every method I know of – CA/BLO, Friction Polish, Behlen’s, other’s plus cobinations of each. Only one I havn’t tried is laquer dip (ok I haven’t tried the dissolved plexiglass either). CA, Friction Polish topped with Carnuba seems to give the best finish but still not the lasting glass like finis... |

Wood floor refinishing - possible weekend project - 3 replies Is there a decent way to get the old hardwoods shining again with totally refinishing the floor? It’s been sanded down and refinished at least twice but I’ve only been in the house about 15 years. Last time it was finished with (I believe) a water based poly. It is really showing some wear in high traffic areas (see picture on le... |

Most durable finish for Bottle Toppers and pens - 6 replies Have the chance to sell both through a local shop. I want to make sure they are good quality. I’ve noticed the friction polish I”ve used on pens in the past tends to wear quickly. Most concerned about the bottle toppers since they could come into contact with some vino…..I’ve bought some of the stainless steel “... |

Which refill do I use? Selling first pen! - 5 replies I just sold my first pen. It will only be the second one I’ve completed. I’ll post pictures in the projects at some point. A friend of my wife’s saw pen #1 that I made for her and commented about it. She thought it was an $80 pen (I wish I could sell them for that). Anyway, she wants to buy one for her dad for a birthday p... |

Whoever told me turning wood is addictive....they are right. + Poll? - 4 replies Started on some ash blanks to get some practice. The first one may be fanciest toothpick I’ve ever seen. I’ve started on a couple of pens, will post those when I get a chance. Kind of like showing pictures of first born baby. You’re so proud, but most babies look about the same and all resemble Winston Churchill I think. C... |

Is there a better way to glue up? Starting over.... - 8 replies I recently attempted to build a shadowbox style frame out of bloodwood as a gift. Learned at lot during the process but when it came time to join the miters things got ugly. I guess I should have waited to route the edges until after I had joined the corners. Corner clamps wouldn’t stay on at all. Only the band clamp worked. I started... |

What is best finish for persimmon wood and other random question. - 3 replies I am refinishing the first golf club ever given to me. It was a hand-me-down from my father. It’s the driver I learned (or tried to) to play golf with. That was about 25 years ago. No telling how long he had it before that. I’ve stripped off the old paint job but want to refinish with a stain to show the beauty of the persimmon ... |

Looking for an online mentor - 27 replies Anybody out there willing to take on a newcomer. As you can read on my home page, http://lumberjocks.com/jocks/Keen1, I don’t have a lot time to spend on my woodworking. But when I do I love it. I can forget about everything else for while and enjoy learning how to work with wood. My dad might have used a screwdriver once or twice so I... |

General Site Question - 10 replies As far as the projects go, most of the one’s I’ve seen are of really fine woodworking. Just wondering if posting projects, built with with wood but without the fine finish are acceptable as well. For example, I just finished building a “Cat House” or as my wife prefers “Kitty Condo”. Most of it is covered i... |

Where is the best place to post pics of works in process? - 7 replies From what I can see, the projects section is just for completed projects. Where can we post pics of work in process on which we need advice? I’m fairly computer literate but I’ve never joined Flickr or any of those sites. I may need to, I guess I was just hoping there would be someplace on this site to post the pictures. |
