In the Spring 2007 Woodworking Magazine they did a review of mortise bits from the 34.99 to the 341.00 sets.

The ones by Hartville Tool came in 2nd and they were 34.99 for the set of 4 chisels. They have a 5/8 shank. The bits are 1/4, 5/16, 3/8 and 1/2.

The ones rated as #1 were by Woodcraft also 34.99 but I can’t find them on their web site The product code was #144010

They are now on sale at Hartville for $17.48

They are in their closeout section so I don’t know how many or how long.

That’s A great buy. If a person doesn’t have a mortising attachment, they can be used to cut by hand, with a wooden mallet.

Maybe the good review will bring those out of closeout and back into production? One can hope…

Thanks for the tip Karson. For that price, they will certainly do for replacing the ones that burnt on me years ago.

Thanks for the information, Karson. I ordered them! ;^) I don’t know how I’m gonna explain this to the wife since I don’t own a mortiser. I know I’ll tell her that, Karson made me do it. LOL.

Now, I need to buy a mortiser. Any suggestions?
