Steel City seems to get really good reviews. Wish I had more space….

Fully understanding that some of us had very poor experiences with Grizzly products in the beginning days of the Co.,they have come a very long way.Their jointers are wonderful by anyone’s standards today, winning most comparison tests with wood working magazines and far less money I can’t figure out how the others even sell anymore.
Years ago I bought a grizzly 6” jointer and it was a terrible machine arriving all sorts of problems and a real bad taste was left in my mouth with a determination never to buy another Grizzly product again.
Then the Fine Woodworking test and highest rating so I tried an 8” jointer and all I can say is it is a great machine and I could not find a single reason to pay any more for any machine, much less the double that Delta wants for theirs. What a complete joke.
The Steel City equipment is being pushed hard by Woodcraft Stores and it does seem to be very nice equipment but not of the quality of Powermatic so I really can’t see their place why?Other brands that have more features, that cost more but are truly “a step up”,I truly understand, support and in my case usually use.
But why the need for another brand in the Jet,General,Delta quality range but much higher than Grizzly and about the same as the others.

I’m sure that there are people out there with some really good experience with these tools that can offer me insight into this brand

Hmmm. Seems like a good find.
$500, 6” Parallelogram table, 1.5 hp, 56” bed, 320 lbs, with mobile base and free shipping.
Only drawback I see is only 3 blades.

Karson,

The other day I wrote about my plan to purchase jointer, but mentioned that I have limited space and budget. What I got back is advice to go with a planer. After some consideration, I am leaning heavily toward the planer.

However, I have come across a jointer deal on a 6” Grizzly parallelogram jointer on e-bay sold by Grizzly for $450 “buy it now” with $90 something shipping and now your deal on the Steel City ($499 free shipping). All very tempting.

Like to think by the time I get around to saving money for another piece of equipment, similar good deals will be around.

Thanks,

Dalec
