I wanted to announce that my son, LJ id Dave won a gold medal today at a Special Olympics event on Soccer Skills.

Last night he didn’t want to go, because he thought that everyone would make fun of him. (He wears a prosthetic leg), but he went and had a great time.

His schools team.

The opening ceremonies with the lit torch.

There were 180 children from Southern Delaware in the events today.

The skills required were moving the ball around a set of cones. Taking a pass and then a shot on goal. And also a goal drill of the number of balls you can get in the net. With a different score for “In the air”, and “On the ground”

Dave with his medal. He has been wearing it all night.

Awesome! I have served as a volunteer with the Special Olympics several times and have a cousin who grew up in my home for 3 years when I was a teen who is downs (and an Olympian)! This is the special olympics not the paralympics right?

Congratulations to Dave. Hey, dad, how about a nice display cabinet for his metal, that is, if you can get him to take it off! What a wonderful experience for you both. Thank you for sharing this with us, it has made my day much brighter!
