Thanks for the photos Karson. I was born in 1940 and things hadn't changed much by the time I was a few years old, except of course for World war ll. The pics brought back lots of nostalgic memories to me.
Thanks Karson, They made me reflect on my Grandfathers time. Of coarse serving America in WWII during that time but also cutting Ash props for the mines in NE Pennsylvania. One thing that looks the same from then till now - That fat old Sun in the sky.
Thanks Karson very nice photos I remember lots of it like picking potatoes by hands, old trains.
One photo was Caribou Maine and I was their Sunday I am over their 2 to 3 time a month.
Did you all notice that none of the rail cars had been tagged yet? The image of the welder in the rail yard really speaks of the character of the American worker my father told me of.
Karson, I think that to many of us have a tendency to forget where we came from. These photos show us our roots. We need to be thankful for all that we have and for all these early Americans did for us.
You might very well have found a young George and Rosie Nell Johnston, my paternal grandparents, at one of those square dances in Oklahoma, and my dad and his brother and sister might have been among those kids asleep on the bed.
Although I'm not old enough to comepletly understand what people went through back then (I'm 44) , those pics really touched me. I looked at alot of them in great detail and was amazed at the suffering you could see in their eyes and yet they still had a certain dignity about them. I wonder if our new generation is willing to work as hard as they were willing too. Very touching, thx for sharing.
