Blueberry Picking.

We went picking blueberries yesterday.

It was a nice sunny day. The humidity was less than it had been all week. It was just a great day for being outdoors.

My daughter came for a visit from New Jersey and she brought the twins.

After about 30-45 minutes we had a couple of buckets filled with Blueberries.

We would have had more but – - -

My daughter checked his mouth once and he had about 10 of them in there at one time. He was not putting them in one at a time but a fist full at a time.

The owner of the orchard gave each of them a peach so we could take their picture. Zack thought that peaches made great balls and he kept throwing it unto the ground.

I wonder if the wood from blueberry bush is also blue.

Cute Kids! They are such a blast at that age. The blueberrys look like they are tastey.

He’s a smart one for his age. Blueberries are good for him and us for that matter. Sounds like everyone had a great time.

Gotta love it. Looks like a great time Karson. Must be fun with twins.

Reminds me…I need to check our bushes. They should be ripe soon. We usually get a few gallons of berries each year and my wife makes some unbelievable desserts. Very tough to maintain my girlish figure!

Very good bob. How many years before they start putting out berries. The place we went must have had about 15 acres of bushes.

Lovely Grandsons, Karson, I’m sure they bring you joy along with the rest of your family.

Speaking of blueberries always reminds me of the time I picked up my new boss at the Vancouver International Airport. Naturally, I was a little nervous and wanted the meeting to go well. It was Blueberry season and apparently the birds were enjoying the bumper crop as much as the farmers. The airport was not far from the fields where the blueberries grew. Just as we walked had out of the terminal building, I felt a might ’SLASH’ on my head. You guessed it, an overhead dive-bombing, berry-eating bird deposited a large quantity of runny blue bird-s**t squarely on my cranium.

Needless to say, I made as big an impression on my new boss as the bird made on me.

Just planted two blueberry bushes this year. We have two berries. Hope they get as beautiful as those!

Don: The one in pink is a girl. All the rest. (4 grandkids born last spring) were all boys. She’s the only girl in the 2006 crop.

You might want to plant a few more Dennis, you may get hungry eating only 2 berries a year. I was going to ask the owner how many years to get a good crop, but, I forgot.

I love blueberries too—and it is the one fruit that I don’t mind picking! No pickies (raspberries).. no backbreaking movements. (strawberries)..
We had strawberries and raspberries on the farm… argh… and no blueberries!!! Go figure :(

10 in the mouth at a time.. too funny.
They are sweeties for sure.

Once visiting in Maine I picked blueberries from the plants that surrounded the house to top off my morning cereal. Fresh and delicious.

Great pictures.

The bushes were actually already there when we bought the property 25 years ago. We have four gargantuan bushes (8’ around) but the birds get most of the berries, even with the nets over them.
