101 posts in 1281 days Location: Baton Rouge, LA I'm just starting out working wood with hand tools. I've been a general handyman around the house, knocking out construction grade stuff using mostly power tools, but in my rapidly approaching dotage I'm trying to venture into a bit of fine woodworking. I don't plan to completely abandon power tools, although I don't have much to really abandon -- bench-top table saw, drill press and band saw pretty much rounds it out (but, I do have what I consider to be a fantastic router -- 3hp Triton -- and a self-built table). I'm looking for a bit of relaxation from the typical routine, and I think that this might be it given that I come from a long line of skilled tradesmen. I think it is in the genes. Unfortunately, all this fun and relaxation is confined to my spare time, and considering that I have a university job and a 12-year old son, such spare time is at a premium. Thanks for the welcome, everyone—and, yes, I can see how it can become a problem (I just hope it never supplants the desire to actually get out there and, as my wife says, turn big pieces of wood into little pieces of wood).
