Checking for the alignment problem - 11 replies

I recently took the plunge on the Craftsman 21883 table saw. I’m hoping I got one of the good ones. Can anyone give me a description of how to check for the alignment problem? I want to check for it before I completely assemble the saw in case I need to take it back. Thanks all.

Restoring a Tiger Maple table top. - 7 replies

I recently moved and have some damage on my Tiger maple table top. There are a couple of cross grain dents. I don’t want to refinish the whole top because the table is very large. Any tips for maybe swelling the dents back out? Or any tricks at all will be greatly appreciated.

Varnish over BLO - 6 replies

Has anyone ever used rubbing varnish over blo? I just put blo over a yellow die stain to tone it down. I got the color I was looking for but I’d like to have a little more lustre. Should I build up more layers of blo or can I use a rubbing varnish?

Hey girls and boys, I need some advice on a cracked sharpening wheel on my Delta wet/dry model 23-700. It seems the 2”x10” dia. aluminum oxide stone has developed a radial crack all the way to the center. I’m not sure how or why it happened. This stone is the slow moving wet stone. Charles Buck Chisels - 5 replies

I found these two chisels in an antique shop for a couple of bucks each. They are marked Charles Buck. One says cast steel. One is a socket type and has leather shock washers on the handle. Anybody know anything about them?

Craftsman vs. Rigid - 26 replies

O.K so I know this is a widely talked about issue but can anyone tell me why the Rigid R4512 does not have the same alignment issues as the obviously same manufactured Craftsman 21833 ? I,m looking for a new table saw in this catagory, and don’t want to pay shipping so HD or Sears is an easy pickup for me.

Can anyone give me some advice on scaling down furniture plans to make smaller versions? I’m thinking of making a bombay chest jewelry box. Do you just take the dimensions and percent them or is there some kind of ratio involved? Thanks for any input.

So I have a 2HP 120/240 motor from a dust collector that has a blown starting capacitor that was oil filled. 125V 200mf. If I run the motor at 240v do I change the start cap. to a 240V?

I recently bought a 14” band saw labled pioneer. Am trying to upgrade it to multi speed. Can anyone advise me on the step pulley I should put on the motor to get the most usable speeds for resawing? The lower wheel has a 6” pulley on it.
