Well I have showed off some of my carvings and now I would like to start an entry and open some dialoge on developing patterns from photos. I ran into a program that will take a photo and turn it into a line drawing where I can then use as a pattern. Has anyone else ever done anything like this?
I plan on displaying a couple of relief carvings that I did this way in my projects.

I make patterns from pictures quite often. The easiest way I find is to use Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10. It has different filters for creating different types of pictures and the best for patterns is the “photocopy” filter. Here is one from Mikes Avatar picture that I showed him a few days ago

I have wanted to try this myself, we require photos and pictures and maybe a video of you doing the carving!

Adobe has an online photo alteration/touchup site that has a sketch function that seems to enunciate the shadows of a picture… it’s Here

if it doesn’t meet your needs do a search for ‘online photo editing’ There are lots of others.
