Craftsman #51 Vise, Restore it or just use it? - 4 replies

I haven’t posted in years. Too many irons in the fire. However, this vise gives me cause to seek guidance. I have known of this Vise for decades, but aside from the one woodworker who had it, i had never seen another.I finally got my hands on one this week. Aside from cosmetic rust and grime, it works great, and a bit of dry grease a...

Since it is almost Halloween, I thought I would poll the electorate and see what the stores want to know. What tool do you want for Christmas?( If you don’t celebrate it or call it that, please resist the urge to tell me such) I know we could all dream big, but what is realistic to see that morning? so lets keep it under 250 dollars, ...

I estimate needing about three pounds of cord per chair, so it must be sold in bulk.So far I am striking out finding it mysel...

cutting plywood with a bandsaw. - 10 replies

I have always heard not to cut plywood on the bandsaw, and I listened until yesterday. I had cause to make one 12” long rip cut to trim a jig , it was all glued together and had a router attached so I couldn’t use the tablesaw. I cut glued up laminations all the time with the bandsaw, so I thought it couldn’t do that much d...

undervalued craft! - 37 replies

I’m going on a bit of a rant here, Why is it that masterful woodwork is so undervalued? Who can even make a living doing custom furniture without cutting corners? why is it like this? As I near the end of my year of schooling in fine furniture, there has been much debate amongst classmates and alumni about making a living at the craf...

custom makers mark - 3 replies

I am having trouble finding anyone making custom makers marks. The type you hit with a hammer, not the burn in type. I know fine woodworking did an article awhile back, but i can’t find it, and theres no way i’m going to subscribe to their site to pay for articles i already paid for once. If anyone has a decent supplier for the...
