Hi all,
I've been woodworking for about 8 years, since freshman year of high school. Ever since I've just been a huge fan of trying to learn and read everything about woodworking. I would say I'm pretty much self taught with the exception as when I worked as an apprentice cabinetmaker for a very short time (2 months), but due to Grad school, I had to stop.
I recently have been building up my shop over the past four years, so I'm fairly well equipped for a weekend woodworker (nothing fancy, but they all do their job).
Recently I've been getting into the whole hand tool experience and I must say, I think I'm addicted. . I really enjoy everything about hand tools, the joinery, the sharpening, no noise, and restoring old tools.
I'm a huge fan of traditional joinery and styles (Shaker, Mission). Cherry is my favorite wood, and I'm a huge fan of simple oil finishes. I grew up with a house full of antiques, so that's surely altered my way of looking at wood, finishes, and joinery.
I sometimes feel like my tool purchases get in the way of my wood purchases, but I justify that idea with the notion of not really having a "full" shop. I see around LJ that there's quite a few LJs out there that have similar problems, so maybe I've joined as a type of counseling service.
Thanks for all the future advice and support.
~Judge
