Since 2003 I have moved to a different place every year, with Sana’a, Istanbul, Jerusalem, Amman, Los Angeles, Seattle, New York, and Chicago all in the mix. I keep a regular blog where I write about projects I’m currently working on, and things going on in my life. I graduated from the University of Washington in June of 2007 with a degree in Near Eastern Languages. While my focus was in Arabic, Hebrew and Turkish also played roles. I am currently a MA student at Indiana University’s Central Eurasian Studies program, focusing on minority languages of Central Asia. I am 25.

Last week for my birthday I got a rather remarkable present from my grandparents: my great grandfather’s Craftsman lathe chisels. My great-grandfather died in 1974, well before I met him, and they passed to my grandfather. He is a consummate craft...
So for the past few weeks I’ve been working on a sideboard bar cabinet. Like so many of us on here, I am drawn to the Arts and Crafts style. The idea of deriving beauty from simplicity, the honesty of good joinery, and a reliance on solid ma...
I browse the Bloomington craigslist’s Materials section, from time to time. A few weeks ago, I saw a post adverstising “Lumber,” and that’s about it. The ad was very vague, and said that they had a large amount of lumber, mostly walnut, some maple...
