Bandsaw Box by Jeffrey M

This is a bandsaw box made by a student of mine named Jeffery M in our high school beginning woods class. He made it from a cedar 4×4 and started with a 6 inch piece and was given creative control from there. I helped Jeffrey a little with cutting, but he did most of the work himself. Great Job Jeffrey!

Help! How do I bend this?

Hello fellow lumberjocks!

I have a student who is making a table and wants to add this fancy trim to the feet. Trouble is the trim is straight and his feet are most decidedly curved. Here is a the student’s project.

http://lumberjocks.com/jocks/McCrafter/projects

Anyone know how to bend this material around about a 2” radius?

Thanks!

Bowfront Table

Here is another fine project from my woodshop class at Wahoo. This was a project from Wood Magazine (October 2006 pg 62) that a junior did. He spent a lot of time and effort on this. We found the instructions to be clear and efficient. It was a very nice project, the nicest project done this year. I hope to have more nice projects like this in years to come.

We used oak plywood for the rounded face, one large piece of cherry for the top, and 8/4 red oak for the legs.

Bandsaw Boxes 2006/2007

Here are some pics of my students’ first attempt at bandsaw boxes. I just had them stack some 2×6’s together for an inexpensive project to try it out. I found out quickly that a good bandsaw blade is a must!

Anyone know a good way to check for proper tension on a 14” bandsaw? I’ve been doing the “pluck” method, but I always fight significant blade drift. Maybe my blades are just worn and need to be replaced?

End Grain Cutting Board

I got this idea from Wood Magazine. They showed some easy to build designs for an endgrain cutting board. Since I had some scrap pieces laying around, I decided to put one together. After a trip to a friend’s house to use his drum sander, I got what I thought was pretty close to done, but after it sat a while, I noticed some cracks in the corners. I used glue everywhere and had it clamped tight. It didn’t crack until a week or so later. The pictures speak for themselves, but does anyone have any thoughts on how this happened and how I could prevent it next time? Man, I need a drum sander.

Thanks,
Jon

Thorsen Side Table

I’ve decided to enter the challenge. I teach woodshop at a high school in Nebraska, but I’m learning all the time. This is a challenge for me to get creative and see what I can come up. I like the idea of a free year subscription to Popular Woodworking! My students look at the woodworking magazines I get and we have projects coming from them all the time. As you can see in my third picture, I didn’t check the depth on my pocket-hole jig, so it cost me a little on the looks of my top. I had to remove the screws and use a brad nailer to finish in time. To see all the sorted details, see my blog at:
