Drill press turning Making a plane knob on the drill press challenge.
Last week I needed a knob for a fence I was making for my no. 3 and 4 planes, and was ready to go to the lathe.- But decided to challenge myself by making it on the drill press, with the simplest means I could find (yes I’m a child).I also took pictures as I went along so I could share it with those who don’t have a lathe.

I’ve had a fancy for a thicknessing sander but a 10-20 inch model costs the equivalent of $1000 US over here and there’s no way I can justify that sort of spending so I looked into making one of my own. There’s no shortage of help to be had on the world-wide-web. The links I found useful include:

Hello here this is my second attempt to blog shell boxes. The last one ended up in the wall art ‘Inverted World’. Well this one is a little less spectacular but is based along the same theme of curves. This time a curved pattern
but it will have stringing introduced between the colour changes as will become apparent as the blog progresses. The main woods are American Black Walnut and Sycamore with Yew stringing. I will be book-matching woods where necessary.
