I'm new in England and hoping to find a shop to share until I am settled and have my finances in order to buy my own equipment. I was a car guy for most of my life. I built, raced, bought and sold, I was always involved in the car business on one level or another. I was hurt really bad several years ago and never recovered properly enough to race or wrench on cars again so I didn't do much with my spare time and I generally wasn't as happy go lucky as I used to be. One day I was at a friends woodworking shop watching him building a box and I was facinated by what he was doing. He then offered to show me a few steps on how to build a box and I picked up on it quite fast. I started big by making a toy box for my granddaughter and I was hooked. I enjoy the way a project comes together and the end results can be beautiful. Anyways, if there are any Brits who could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it Thanks, JohnnyRThrottle

Hey, Johnny. Check out Brit here on LJs; he’s a Londoner like you, and is a tremendously skilled hand tool aficionado. Oh, and welcome to LJs!

Johnny, thanks for the advice. I’m making a smaller version (collectable/jewelry) before trying a full size chest. I used your advice with the slats by cutting them from 3/4 stock about an eighth inch thick. Worked out great! Lots of glue but I added brad nails for strength. Used the orbital sander to smooth out. I have about 2 more days of work left on it for details but will post when done. Thanks again!
Have your say...
