Part 1: lumber yard

03-21-2011 07:53 PM by JoeyG | 15 comments »

I have been looking through the pictures here on LJ and I feel the beginnings of a idea forming. I have a couple of things I would like to make, but no real clear picture. So I go to the lumber yard and they have a cabinet shop, mill shop set up and ask about shorts they may have on hand. To my pleasant surprise, I find out that I can get a 20 percent discount on shorts. And the greatest part is that they mill up different stuff every week so I never know what I may find. Since I am work...

Part 2: what to build?

03-22-2011 02:08 PM by JoeyG | 3 comments »

So I have went to the lumber yard and picked up a couple of shorts. Now I have decided that I have a couple things I want to make. I am going to make 2 laptop lap trays and a box for myself. I have had my shop for a year, three days ago. That is when we bought our house and I “claimed” the garage. :-) . Those with wives know what I mean, although my wife is extremely supportive in my pursuit of a functioning shop. So today I am going up to the local library with my younge...

Part 3: almost ready to go

03-25-2011 12:59 PM by JoeyG | 3 comments »

I have my new lumber laid out on my table saw waiting for me.I have a couple of ideas floating around in my brain.Ready to go right? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! First I have to complete the bathroom remodel for my wife. I have been working on it for almost a month. It seems like a long time on just a half bath, in my defense, I did gut it to the studs and I only work on it a hour or two a day. So far I have fixed several things inside the walls, hung and finished the sheetrock, pa...

Part 4: Really, I am almost ready

03-29-2011 12:50 AM by JoeyG | 4 comments »

I have finished the tile floor in the bathroom, tomorrow I will install the toilet and cabinets and replace all the trim in the bedroom and bathroom. I still have a couple of doors to hang but since we haven’t purchased them yet, they will have to wait. What does that mean? It means I get to start making saw dust instead of sheetrock dust. I stopped by the woodworking store in my area today after we took returned some unused tile to the big orange box. I picked up 2 shorts. One o...

Part 5: finally

04-03-2011 11:18 PM by JoeyG | 1 comment »

Well I finally made enough progress on the bedroom and half bath remodel that I have had a chance to sneak off into my shop to start a couple projects and make a little saw dust. I started 2 of the 5 eye glass boxes and while doing so I have begun to narrow down the design on the laptop trays I have in mind. I have a couple of pics here of the beginnings of the boxes This one is for my son. It is just the glue up for the top. It is walnut and blood wood This one is for my wife....

Part 6: back in the shop

04-11-2011 01:37 AM by JoeyG | 1 comment »

So I have finally finished most of the remodel. Just a few more loose ends to tie up. So I have found a few hours to get into the shop. This is what i have so far. Once again I have to thank Andy., for I am using his style palm boxes. I wanted to give them a spin. I am also taking inspiration from his art boxes with the grinding. I don’t have a sanding disc for my angle grinder, plus these boxes only have 3/8 inch sides so I am using drum sanders. Both on a drill press and in my...

Part 7: I made it into the shop finally

04-20-2011 02:24 PM by JoeyG | 3 comments »

I have been grabbing an hour here and there letting things like the grass slide (I am going to do it when I finish this post). I have 6 boxes well on there way, pieces cut for another 9, and that takes care of most of Christmas. Here are a few pics of my progress so far. I have used a lot of different woods and think that most are listed in early post in this thread. I hope to be able to post some of them completely finished soon. As with all things, time will tell. !https://s3.am...
