Well, I picked one of these up today from HD. $184.50 plus tax. Looks like they are clearing them out. Wonder if that long rumored new BS from Ridgid is about to finally show up? Sales person said they had 3 yesterday morning. I got the last one this morning.

I left straight from there and headed over to Rockler. Picked up a 1/8 inch Olson blade.

Took me the rest of the evening, but I got it up and running. Doesn’t appear to be too bad. A little vibration, but not as bad as some of the reviews I have read. The belt was REALLY kinked up from being “folded” in the box.

It was really easy to set the tension/tracking on that narrow blade. Same with the guide blocks/thrust bearing. (My current band saw was a Hitachi 10 inch I got on clearance at Lowes for $60. It runs ok, but couldn’t handle a 1/8 inch blade. Plus, tracking adjustments on it are a nightmare!)

Since I was so tired (and we all know what happens sometimes when we get tired!), I only tried cutting a couple of scrap pieces on it before I called it a night. At 58, I’ve kinda grown accustomed to having all my fingers!

I’m hoping it will be warm enough tomorrow after I get home from work to play with it a little more and get a better feel for it.

Sorry if this should have gone into the reviews, but it’s not really a full review. Just a note to let anyone who might be interested in this particular bs to give your local HD a check.

Good score. I don’t recall the particular year the production run of the shaky BS1400s was, but you can see in the reviews, they are all sort of dated around the same time, rumor has it the BS1400 had a bad production year, it might have been 2004 or 2005, I don’t recall…
