Well this is a first for me . A bud of mine is switching from his queen size bed to king size . He didnt want to invest in a new furniture group and asked if i would take on the project . So what to do about the profiles on the headboard and the color matching …this bed is over 20 years old .
So i started off by taking the headboard apart and added the extensions to the top rail(used dowels and pocket screws). I marked where the profiles lines were and took it to the table saw
i hand plained the corner then with a blade scraped the inner profile .
Is ther an easyer way to do this ??? I know it didnt come out perfect but i couldnt find the the router bit anywhere …i used epoxy puddy to copy the profile then use sandpaper to cut it out but that didnt work …so i scraped a close looking profile .

for the dummy board i decided to just do the whole piece over again

I did have the right profile for the dummy board so it came out pretty good !!

And here it is together …question to all …what is a good way to color match the rest of the headboard ??.

Wow Jimboe that turned out very well!
I hope your color matching comes out just as nice, good job!

The refit work looks like it came out well. But I am wondering if that big gap between panels on the headboard will remain that way? Even with the refinish on it- the big hole is still there. A pillow eater if you ask me. LOL I am guessing your friend is a bachelor at this point? As in no wife in the picture to tell him to ditch that bed into the spare room and invest in a new one. LOL. Good luck with the finish. :)
