I'm a carpenter, preacher, father of 3 sons, 3 great Daughter-in-laws, 6 grand kids, and a devoted husband of 44 years. I'm semi-retired and am doing woodworking for fun in our 2 car garage. I have a new portable tablesaw, used 12" bandsaw, a 4" joiner/planer, lots of hand tools gathered over 40 years of carpentry. I would like to have a bench belt sander with a disk sander also. One day I will get a portable planer. I'm presently working on a corner hutch for our kitchen and planning to make a cabinet for my table saw with a much longer fence system out feed table and router table.

Thank you all for your friendly welcomes.
I’m just getting started building my shop in our 2 car garage (and sharing it with general storage) and I am looking for ideas and plans for shop jigs and the like. someone mentioned ‘sketch up’ in a publication I read, does anyone know anything about it and if it can help with drawing schematics, cut lists, and material lists? I have never used CAD or anything like this before so I’m wondering if my learning curve would be too stiff to be an advantage to me at this time.

Once again I want to say thank you all for your friendly welcomes. I am still quite busy until I actually retire some time next summer, but I know my experience with LJ will be rewarding and instructive, I have already enjoyed searching out info to help me. Thanx
Kathy and I just got back from a trip to Virginia Beach to a conference, on the way back we stayed overnite at the Skylands Lodge in the Shenandoah Nat. Park on Skyline Drive, great place and we want to return when we can spend more tine …

Hi there,
Welcome to LumberJocks… I joined the site myself a little over a year ago and will give you fair warning, this site is VERY ADDICTIVE, VERY EDUCATIONAL, and VERY FUN…. so sit back, enjoy the ride and learn from the other LJ’s as they are a group of extremely talented people that are also very friendly…
Enjoy your time here on LJ and pass the word to any of your woodworking buddies about us…
