way to automatically mark forum topics that have new posts - 5 replies

I frequent both LumberJocks and SawMillCreek (SMC) forums. SMC has a nice feature (that usually works) of where the link color to a topic will tell me if there are any new replies that I have not read. Bold says that I have either not read this topic or that there are replies that I have not read. This allows me to scroll through a list of ...

questions on types of plywood - 1 reply

Although I have been a woodworker for years I realize that I don’t really understand the terms that are associated with plywood. How about helping enlightening me? 1. Sometimes plywood comes in 4×8’ sheets, sometimes 5×5’ sheets. Why the difference and what term should I apply to each? 2. Recently I purchased...

While cleaning up the workshop I found a sheet of plastic laminate that had been rolled up and stored for several years. Now when I cut the tape it wants to stay rolled up. What would be an easy way to flatten the laminate?

Hardware for installing fence on new Grizzly bandsaw? - 8 replies

Yesterday I went and got my new Grizzly G0513X2BF bandsaw from the Springfield, Missouri, location. Today I am putting it together and mating it to the Shop Fox mobile base. Grizzly Tech Support said to put a 3/4 to 1” plywood raiser so that the bottom door will open. I can confirm that this is necessary. I started looking to assembl...

Stripping the shipping gunk off cast iron - 11 replies

Every time a new tool arrives the cast iron surfaces are coated with some kind of protector? You know the stuff, yellowish and sticky. Normally I use mineral spirits or paint thinner to remove it. A neighbor was telling me that it is bad to use either of these to clean cast iron. What do you use to clean the cast iron table surfaces of a n...

Looking for paper towel holder - 5 replies

I am planning on switching from the rolls of paper towels (i.e. Bounty) to the type that come in a rectangle package and has a hanging holder. Sort of like the following: Does anyone have a plan for this type of holder they would be willing to share? I don’t need the rounded edges.

Sources for Wood Slicer and Timber Wolf band saw blades - 13 replies

Well today I committed to the Grizzly 17” bandsaw. Now it is time to find good blades for resaw. I was planning on using a 3/4” blade. From various posts the top two blades seem to be either the Wood Slicer or the Timber Wolf. I thought I would buy one of each and compare the results. For the Wood Slicer blade I could only f...

Grizzly 17" band saw and Shop Fox mobile base - 2 replies

I am planning to buy either the Grizzly G0513×2b or G051×2bf. Both list the size of the base as 27” x 17 3/4”. Grizzly sells a mobile base made by Shop Fox that lists its size range as 20” x 20” to 29” by 29”. Since I happen to already have this Shop Fox base I plan to use mine. But if the base...

Questions on Grizzly band saw - 8 replies

I am ready to purchase my new bandsaw. I have been encouraged to go with the Grizzly 17” over the Powermatic 14” as I can get more saw for the same money. Currently I am leaning towards the G0513X2B model. It will be used for resawing various hardwoods. I am leaning towards the 3/4” Woodslicer brand of blades. After review...

Grizzly 17" band saw owner in Saint Louis, Missouri? - 0 replies

For a year now I have been saving for a new bandsaw. The 12” craftsman is just not capable of doing the resawing I need. I first was thinking of a 14” Powermatic, and then folks on the Internet pointed me towards the 17” Grizzly G0513×2. I don’t like to purchase something thing that expensive without having a ch...
