I got a couple of messages about my absent here, so I thought I would update my profile.
I am the primary care-giver for my elderly mother with dementia. She has been in the hospital three of the last weeks due to foot problems. When mother is in the hospital, just about everything I do come to a halt since I try to spend several hours each day with her.
With the spring weather, I am longing for a chance to get into the workshop, but, I don’t know when I will have the chance.
I am a computer and network professional with a love for training others.
Woodworking has been my hobby since junior high, back in the 70's. Currently, I have a small shop of approximately 1000 sq feet that is crowded with tools (delta contractors saw with Incra fence, 6" delta jointer, 12" delta thickness planner, DeWalt chop saw, Jet drill press, Record mini lathe, Proformax 16-32 drum sander, V-Drum sander, Grizzly 17” band saw and 2 router tables).
In fall of 2012 I replaced my 12” Craftsman bandsaw (a very poor machine IMHO) with either a 17 Grizzly bandsaw. So far the Grizzly has been a solid performer and is making me want to upgrade the rest of my tools. Next purchase will probably be a replacement table saw. I love the safety features of the StopSaw I just don’t know if I can justify the price over a Grizzly saw.
I enjoy a wide verity of woodworking from Incra type projects (boxes and cutting boards), pen and pencil turning, to steam bending oval shaker boxes.
Last January, my mother (she's 88) came to live with me. Mother suffers from dementia and can't be left alone for any period of time. This has limited my computer consulting abilities since I can't travel. I hope to build a small woodworking craft business so I can be home to care for my mother and still be able to earn a living.
