I retired from the Army in 2001. I work for the University of Michigan as a Business Systems Anaylist (finally using my brain instead of my back). I come from a family of carpenters (both grandfathers and my dad). I worked in the trade with my dad as a kid and for a couple of years after high school and wood seems to be in my blood. I currently have a small shop and am working on my skills. I felt that my wookworking was stifled while on active duty and feel that I am behind schedule/ there isn't enough time to build everything that I want to try. I mostly build bird houses/feeders, child size picnic tables/ adirondack chairs and toy trucks. My wife owns and operates her daycare, so I have leaned toward children oriented items. I find it very gratifying to build something that someone likes (and puts money in my hand). I absolutly love to work with wood, it feels natural to me and I feel that I can build or mimic almost anything (as my skills develop) with wood. Metal, paint or anything else is for someone else. I am starting to get interested in finishes since I have made a couple of keepsake boxes and they would look much better with better finish techiques.

My wife says I get a tablesaw for Christmas. I’ve had my eye on the delta model at Lowe’s and I have not found any tool reviews to gather an opinion for any other saw in this price range. Anybody have anything to say about this saw ...
