I just posted my First Project a few minutes ago, so I thought I’d catch everyone up to where I’m at since. My daughter is almost a year old now, so that explains a lot of the big gap in time between completing the TV Stand and finishing the rest of the entertainment center. I’m moving along on the project at a faster pace, now, since my little girl is becoming a heavy sleeper. :-)
I figured out that I spent a lot of time sanding to correct for my old $200 Craftsman table saw’s inadequacies, so I sold it on craigslist and picked up the Ridgid TS3650. I upgraded the stock blade to the Ridgid 90-tooth titanium coated blade. I also picked up a band saw to help with cutting out the corners of the plywood shelves. One tool I really like is the magnetic featherboard I picked up from Home Depot. It’s the Ridgid model, and it really works well. Easy to set up, and it holds position well.
So, anyway…I am blazing ahead on my next project, which is really the second part of the first project: the two 5’ towers that will stand on either side of the TV Stand. I am using the same technique, so that I can guarantee they match. I have cut all the posts and face frame, which went wonderfully on my new saw! :-) I have drilled all of the holes for the dowels, which was a whopping 256 holes!!!
This weekend, I will probably do a mock-up with the posts and face frame so I can adjust the dimensions of the shelves before I rip them on the table saw. I hope to set up my new bandsaw in preparation of cutting the corners off the shelves.
I’ll try to set up an account on flickr or something so I can share the pictures I have taken.
Off to the garage….
