Hello LJ’s, Got to spend a little time in the shop yesterday. I finished routing out all the mortises and squared up the through mortises. I have a block of maple laying around that I use as a guide for square chiseling. I ran the maple b...

Thanks for the great responses. It’s always nice to get praise from your peers. I’m flying a Rockwell Turbo Commander 900 for a small company in Indiana. It’s a great life. Lots of hobby time!

Welcome to LJ. It’s a great place to spend your time. How are things in the land of the Boiler Makers? I grew up north of Logansport many years ago. From the photo I could tell you were a driver of some kind. I’m out of service but still have my ticket. You’ll really like this place.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.
Thos,
Boiler land is doing well. Purdue is what brought me to Lafayette. I’ve been to Oregon once an loved it. A lot more trees than Indiana!

A belated but warm welcome to our not-so-small community John. It’s nice to see another pilot—who also likes the opera!—joining us.

Unfortunately not John. I’m grounded because of the outrageous costs of renting here and the equal outrageous amounts of red tape involved in homologating any foreign title/license to Japanese equivalents. Also I have to say that the language spoken in daily life is not such a problem but the technical mumbo jumbo over the crappy radio quality is not something that I am looking to. Of course, once you have listened to the average Japanese butchering English you don’t want him giving you clearances in a country where everything is expected to be perfect the first time.
Never seen an aeronautical chart of Japan but knowing the geography and the social context of the country, flying SEPs is nothing I’d do here. No emergency fields, thousands of wires, power lines and everything imaginable everywhere, the few flat fields are miniature and flooded (tasty rice we’ve got here but… not very well suited for an off-airport landing). The rest are either mountain tea fields (no good, the tea brush is way too high) or houses/skyscrapers. Think about a country slightly smaller than California with 130 million inside in only half of that surface, the rest being volcanoes.
I guess if it wasn’t for the even higher costs, I’d better get a chopper license. But again, you don’t see Robinsons here, only turbine stuff, mainly bi-turbines.
But, hey, don’t they use to say that everything comes to those who know to wait? ;o)
Enjoy you while you can, some of us envy you. BTW, I always loved the look of the 900, so sleek and low.

John…you got the answer correct. The probem is the question.

Hey Panama,
Thanks for the welcome. Where do you get your wood from in Indiana. Always looking for good local sources. Have you ever been to Frank Miller Lumber Co in Union City, IN?
