Hello all. I am back…. Well…. Sort of. Okay, here’s the story. I finally got the chance to get back into the shop and start some projects for the farmers market. I was finishing up some built in shelves for a customer when my back went out. OH YES! It went way out. 3 ruptured disk L-3 L-4 and L-5. Stenosis of the L-5 S-1 vertebra with the disk at that same spot blown out are compressing the nerves of my left leg. Sciatic nerve for those of you who may not know is the main nerve that run down the legs to the feet. For me this is the left. Pain, tingling, burning and numbness are the sensations I deal with from my left buttock to my left foot. And on occasion my right side as well. Can’t stand for long or sit for long. For that matter, can’t lay for long either. I once thought I knew what pain was. HAHAHAHA. Silly me. I now have a new appreciation for those of you who deal with chronic back and leg pain.

I have been out of work now for two months. Surgery with be on the 26 of June. I will be laid up for sometime and then physical therapy for a while. So I won’t be doing much in the wood shop. But the good news I can still do wood carving even while laid up in bed. My wife said she’ll be vacuuming up the wood chips around me. That is as long as I don’t make a real pest of myself. Guess that means I have to behave or I will be sleeping with the chips. HAHAHA God Father thing….”Sleeps with the fishes”. Ok that sounded funnier in my head.

I want to thank you all for your kind words and prayers. This past year was a tough one and it has been a time of reflection and growth. I am back and working toward a goal that would make my brother proud. I really hope to spend the time learning more about my beautiful wife and becoming a better husband and more for her. But most of all I really want to work on becoming a man after God’s heart. After all, God gave me the talents of working with wood and it is Him I wish to bring glory to. Not me.

So. You all be safe and again, thank you for your prayers and support. I look forward to sharing some picture of my new carvings with you soon. God bless you all

In His Grip,

Jeff

Jeff,

Get an old terry cloth towel. I’m using a beach towel from the lazy boy and between that and Trouble (the lab) no dirty looks with the chips all over the place!

I hear you about injuries and out of the shop. I got a brand new 36” Grizzly belt sander machine and haven’t touched it yet. It’s been there for a month! I have had stupid porch building jobs come up that I have to finish. One is my own. Or my wife was going to kill me. I hope everything goes well for you. I was supposed to have my shoulder operated on two months ago, but I can’t find a good time to get it done. I can’t imagine being tied down right now. I have two trips scheduled up to September and maybe I will think about getting it done then. I am mostly down to one arm and I am not building anything above my head. So a barn project has been put on hold, thank God. I didn’t want to do it anyway! I will pray for you and I hope all goes well with your surgery. At least you get to sit around and read all those articles that you and I and every other person on here has said they were going to read and never get the time to read them. I thought I was going to get a start on them tonight, but it ain’t looking good right now. God Bless! Todd
