Hello folks. This week’s project is a 2×4 porch swing. It will be built with eight 8’ 2×4s. The arms are going to have angled half lap joints. All the slats will be screwed in from below so there will be no fasteners showing from above. Here is a video covering the design in SketchUp. Thanks for watching.

James101 – I have used several programs for screen recording. This video was done in Windows using CamtasiaStudio screen recorder. Most of the free screen recorders work just fine.

You’re good with that Sketch Up.
I’m going to try to recreate your chair on Sketch Up while watching the video of you making it. Great tutorial.
Nice chair also.

JCC,

I have learned more about sketchup from your videos than reading the book…sometimes you go fast but I can pause and rewind

JCC, I have been working on this chair as a practice in sketchup for a few days.
I have a question. At 6:33 the bottom half lap on your model and mine has a line that goes all the way across. It’s been driving me crazy. I was able to hide that line but why is it there? Does it have something to do with the off angle rather than a straight piece?
