Poplar takes on a whole new look once you apply oil to it. Looks nice. How is it holding up as a cutting board? I always thought poplar was too soft to use as a cutting board.

Doug – I don’t see poplar being too soft for a cutting board. That being said it wouldn’t be my first choice of wood if I were to buy the material. This was a matter of free wood and something to do. So far its holding up fine. If the top surface gets too abused I will be glad to run it through the plainer again in about 6 months. Thanks for the comments and have a good day!
