Jay, let me make a suggestion on how you can glue up your miters. I found a cool little trick at www.ibuildit.ca
I used these little gems on a recent project and they worked great.

Your attempt is appreciated. I must say that you have made a really nice attempt. When I had built my first photo frame, it ended up in disaster. Thanks for sharing the tutorial.
