Apologies for not knowing what this red and incredibly dense wood is. Hard to work with but extremely durable.
This was my first project involving angled mortising. Our guests fall in love with this little thing, created for my parents-in-law who prep vegetables at floor level. This is almost too heavy for a one hand carry, but they have thanked me for it.

Seeing the end of the slab with all its rays makes it look like red oak, but the face grain makes it look like butternut and the knot inclusions looks like it could be a soft wood. Since its probably a native species to China/Asia, I have no idea, but its a nice looking wood.
