Woo! spring is here in the severely northern new york. Yep thats right! Grass, leaves on the trees, warm weather, sun, and allergies! Thats right folks, i suffer from spring time allergies! Needless to say %&$# spring! Its gorgeous, but i cant breathe. Today i actually had to take a few hours off because i was blasting snot rockets so bad i thought maybe it was a good idea to keep away from the power tools, and thats why im writing to you from my shop trying to make up those lost hours.

Today was more adirondack chairs. people love them. so i figure the more i build now, the less interruptions ill get when people want them (made that mistake last year). But i also was working on my jewelry box. Ya know, the one that ive been talking about for a few days. Now, things dont normally take this long for me but im actually working on three or four things right now. This box, i tell ya what, i think i got a little overly creative with it. Its made mainly of maple, nice flame maple. But i used mahogany, walnut, and purple heart accents, and cherry splines. To be fair tho, most projects i do involve black walnut, love it.

What step did i do today you ask? Well i did everyones favorite part, sanding! I have to admit i dont hate sanding as much as i used to tho. I bought a really nice bosch sander and it works so well sanding seems to be quicker and more efficient. Only thing is when i use figured wood i go NUTS trying to get it looking good. I use Bush Oil, the stuffs great! I got it at my local hardwood dealer, google it. I’ve done projects using ONLY that and it looks like i put poly on it. But to get there i have to sand it up to about 600 and then sand it again with these neat pads, after all that it has a shine on its own that you almost hate to finish. Unfortunately today i realized im out of paper so the highest i got to is 400. So i got all my sanding done, glued the base to the box and here it sits until tomorrow so i can apply the oil in my dust free driveway. Picture of the box will be in the comments, and ill add it to the projects when its totally done.

So thats it for today. I’m kinda tired and the writing juices arent flowing so well haha. See you all tomorrow!

That’s one sharp looking box! I hope your business does well this summer.

Dang…that’s nice. Sure would like to see it with the finish on it.
