I was attacked at an Eagles game and beaten almost to death with a beer bottle while trying to protect a group of kids that I was supervising. I was their designated driver. This maniac came over and decided that I would become the target for his rage. This was a completley unprevoked.

I lost three teeth, still testing the other four. I have a sever concusion. And I have been out of work for almost five months now.

I can't just sit around, I need to be doing something. I have never taken a shop class in my life. I don't have a garage. I have a 10x12 shed in my back yard. So I decided to clear it out and try some things.

I love chess. The very first thing I made was that maple chess board. And I loved it. So to this day, still out of work, I am making things out of wood.

And I am trying to do it with as much recyclecd material as possible, for some reason, it just makes sense to me.

Well, Jason, that’s a hell of a way to enter woodworking.
I’m glad you are still around to relay the story.
Good luck to you in your future woodworking endeavors, and welcome to Lumberjocks.
I wonder if the guys above me even read your introductory story.

I hope you have fun, heal fast and make woodworking a permanent part of your activities.

I’ve seen a lot of different LJ’s who are recovering from something or other. Woodworking can be very relaxing and fulfilling, especially when you’re trying to get your life back in order.
