Looking for owner of a portable sawmill - 4 replies We had a huge storm about a week ago with straight line winds of up to 95 miles per hour. There are trees down all over the place. I hate seeing these trees turned into wood chips or firewood. If I knew of an owner of a portable sawmill I’d try to salvage some of the trees. In the park close to where I work there are at least five larg... |

I’d really like to buy some Jet parallel clamps but can’t quite justify the cost yet. Do any of you LumberJocks have any experience with Gross Stabil clamps? Would ... |

Requesting review of mortising machines - 18 replies I build a lot of Arts and Crafts style furniture which means lot’s of mortise and tenon joints. I’m tired of drilling out the mortise and cleaning them up with chisels. Anybody that has a mortising machine I’d love to hear a review of it. I’d like to see reviews of multiple brands, Jet, Delta, General Machine, Grizzly,... |

Dust Collector - 5 replies I currently own a Sears Craftsman 21337 1.5 HP dust collector. This months issue of Wood magazine has a review of 15 different dust collectors. The Craftsman didn’t do too bad except in the bag filtration category. The reason for the low rating is that it has a 30 micron bag instead of a 5 micron or less. The top model was the Delta 50... |

Hickory, Cherry, Chokecherry? - 2 replies I was given this log and so far the person giving it to me has said that it was cherry, no it’s chokecherry, and now says it is hickory. I have no clue what it is. I’m getting two more logs of the stuff regardless. I don’t know if I should paint the ends and wait a year or cut it up, sticker it and let it sit. Any suggestio... |

Tax advantages for the semi-pro shop - 6 replies Now that I’ve been doing woodworking for a year and have sold several pieces I’m considering going through the process of becomeing a “legitimate” business. I know for the state of Iowa I have to get a Doing Business As certificate. I will also likely go through the process of becoming an LLC. My question is, what ar... |

Jet/Performax 22/44 vs Grizzly 24" Dual Drum Sander - 2 replies I thought I was all set to order the Jet 22/44” drum sander. For another couple hundred bucks I can get a dual drum sander from Grizzly. Does anyone have experience using both a single and a dual drum sander? My main use is to reduce the amount of hand sanding, thickness sand highly figured wood and to sand veneer/lamination. I’d... |

Zero Clearance Inserts and Height Adjustment - 10 replies Last night I made a couple zero clearance inserts for my table saw. This is the first time I’ve ever had any. I used 1/2” baltic birch plywood with counter top style laminate. The inserts weren’t quite tall enough so I removed the set screws used to adjust the height from the standard insert. I drilled four holes in the ins... |

Parallel, (K body), bar clamps - 5 replies I don’t currently own any parallel bar clamps. I plan on starting to purchase some soon. I was planning on purchasing Jet clamps. I see that Woodline has come out with their own line of parralel bar clamps. Anyone have any experience with the Woodline or Jet parallel bar clamps? I’d be interested in any reviews. Thanks in advance. |

Help me identify wood. - 11 replies I need help identifying the wood attached to this topic. All of the wood was milled from a single piece. I have a bunch of this stuff that someone gave me. I think it’s spalted soft maple but I’m not sure. I can’t really decide what to do with it. I was going to try and use it to make bookshelves but that’s out with ... |
