Baileigh SD-174 drum sander lands today. (Pics) - 11 replies

A short time back I won the contest put on by Baileigh Industrial. I won a 1k prize but had to hold off collecting on it so I could add a little to the total & get their 17” drum sander. It’s out for delivery today. I think it’s great that a company gets involved with their client base this way. It gets the word out about t...

Glaser Hitec Synergy QR system - 9 replies

I wanted to share with all my turner friends here the new quick release Glaser Hitec Synergy gouge. Keep in mind this is my opinion of the tool I have in hand and I’ve only got a short time on it so far. From what I can tell so far though, this has got to be the most advanced line of turning tools ever created. You may see other quick chan...

Where did the dollar go? - 11 replies

3 people check into a hotel for 30 dollars. After they go to their room, the manager realizes he over charged them 5 bucks. He tells the bell hop to take the five bucks to them. The bell hop thinks “They can’t split five bucks 3 ways, I’ll pocket 2 bucks & refund one dollar to each” This now means they paid 9 bucks a ...

Man VS machine. - 17 replies

I’m in a box building contest at SMC, what I was surprised to see is, there aren’t many boxes being done by hand. while I have to applaud the efforts of the guys using CNC’s and lasers, it also saddens me a bit to see hand made craftsmanship slipping into a PC. Anyway, here are some pics of my project, please enjoy. This box...

condor tails for workbench. - 14 replies

I’ve been practicing my hand cut condortails. (Giant Dovetails) to do the corners of my workbench I’m building. Time after time they were terrible. Then a fellow BOTL (Brother of the lumber) told me about an old article in popular woodworking authored by Jameel Abrahams, an outstanding woodworker & Oud builder. Jameel has been an...

Wine cellar build - 6 replies

Well, I haven’t been around much recently. I’ve been building a wine cellar, an entertainment center, a humidor and running my stereo business full time. So I’ve been a little preoccupied. Anyway, I thought I’d share some of the wine cellar. This accounts for about 250 bottles in the picture. The project will hold about 3...

A visit with shipwright & a tutorial on the Chevalet - 2 replies

So today I got a chance to go to Paul’s house to hang out and get a tutorial on the Chevalet. All I can say is WOW, what an amazing tool. From what I’ve read, this marquetry cutting device has been around since 1780 and is considered one of the first, in a sense, production tools in woodworking. While it looks intimidating, it’...
