About a month ago I wrote about tearing up my back. It was initially diagnosed as sciatica and now I wish that was still the diagnosis. Apparently I was born with a some what of a special back if that is what you want to call it. The vertebrae right above the tail bone usually has the biggest disc in it. Mine however has none, never has and has always been fused together. The problem that I have now is the L5 disc is herniated and my L5 vertebrae shifts back and forth freely which stresses this disc even more and a month ago finally got pushed to the breaking point where I find myself today. I am a firm believer in Christ and God, I do believe that we are tested in our faith all of the time. When the steel mill I was working in got closed due to this economy, another door opened and you all have seen these new projects and learning experiences I have been blessed with.
I was working a ton of hrs until this happened with my back. Now I am forced to slow down and not over do it (and no offense to our older jocks) and move like a really old man. Got the bad news today after a 4 hr visit with Dr.’s I have to have surgery on my back. I’ll be put on the shelf for 3 to 6 months and tons of therapy and hopefully if all goes right my left leg will work properly.
As I said I am firm in my faith and sometimes we don’t always see the big picture in store for use because we get tunnel vision. I have a serious case of that now and will have plenty of time to focus on the big picture. Just wanted to ask everyone for encouragement and prayers as I face the knife next Wednesday and start on my road to recovery.
Sincerely, Jim

I also have a bad back (not as bad as yours) so I know what the pain is all about.
Jim you are now in my prayers. Always remember the Lord never gives us more than we can handle. Your faith will get you through this.

Jim, thanks for sharing this. It sounds like you have a positive attitude towards the surgery and that will be a major factor on your road to recovery. I hope the surgery goes well and am wishing you and your family nothing but the best.
Let us know how things are going with you.
